The Department of Accounting and Finance offers programs of study to prepare students for professional accounting and finance careers in public, private and nonprofit organizations. The programs of study also prepare students for graduate study and for professional certifications.
The objectives of the Accounting and Finance Department is to develop and enhance students' oral and written communication skills as well as research skills while ensuring that they become competent information technology (IT) designers. Furthermore, the department provides students with a broad understanding of finance management of profit and not-for-profit organizations while guarantying students develop an understanding of the guidelines and regulations of Accounting.
The Department of Accounting and Finance also makes students aware of the dynamic and changing environment in financial gathering and reporting in a global economy. The department prepares students for careers in public practice, industry, and government as well as prepares them for graduate study in accounting, finance, and related fields.
The Department of Accounting and Finance offers a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Accounting. The department offers minors in accounting and in finance.
Our students are encouraged to get involved in extracurricular activities, which support their academic goals. We offer memberships in The Virginia State University Chapters of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and the Financial Management Association (FMA). We also ensure students have hands on experience as well as opportunities to receive money through internships and scholarships available for qualified students.
