Tanner Collins is Sr. Vice President at REDC Community Capital. Born in New York while his parents attended New York University, Tanner Collins originally wanted to become President of an HBCU. His Family arrived in Ettrick, Virginia around 1959 where his parents taught at what was then Virginia State College. He attended Matoaca Laboratory School on the campus along with the children of other VSC personnel.
After high school, Tanner entered Virginia State University where he participated in the “Marching 110”, the Symphonic Band, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The highlights of his college days were a European trip with the Symphonic Band to England, Holland, France, and Germany to perform at well known musical venues. It was during Graduate Studies at VSU that he met his future Wife, Sheliah, with whom he has 2 Daughters.
Tanner’s banking career began at Crestar (now SunTrust) Bank where he was a Merchant Services Representative responsible for sales and service of the then new fangled credit card machines and authorization services. That was followed by stints as an Analyst in the Commercial Division, Business Banker, and Branch Manager. He left SunTrust to become Senior Commercial Loan Officer at Consolidated Bank and Trust before joining REDC Community Capital Group as Regional Executive Officer responsible for the company’s Gateway Region Office which covers the Petersburg MSA.
Tanner’s interests are serving the community. He is involved in the Petersburg, Colonial Heights, and Chesterfield Chambers of Commerce, and is on the Board of the Metropolitan Business League and participates in the Chesterfield County Economic Development Advisory Committee. His Family is involved in his Church, the First Baptist Church of South Richmond.
