Summer 2014 Student Accomplishments

The Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University celebrated the following summer, 2014 student accomplishments.

(1) Michael McCatrey (Marketing major) participated in Project Shadow with Evan Kaufman (Executive Director) of the Hopewell Downtown Project.

(2) Allison Selby (Management major) participated in Project Shadow with our good friend Tom Bannard (Shelter Operations Manager) at the Caritas Healing Place in Richmond.

(3) LaShae Athey (Management major) has earned a paid internship at General Services Corporation as a Campus Liaison.

(4) Equasha Smith (Management/HR major and May 14 grad) has been hired by our friends at WalMart Logistics for a Management position.

(5) Robin Worsham (Management/HR major) has been hired as a Recruiter for Sun Management Group. Robin completed her co-op at RockTenn working in HR and will recruit for Sun Management Group until January when she returns to us to finish her degree!

(6) Shalia Watts (Marketing major and May 13 grad) is working as an Executive Assistant at New Horizons Supported Services in the beltway.

(7) Whitney Barner (Management major and May 12 grad) will pursue her M.B.A. online with Trident University International from Cypress. Her focus will be HR which has always been Whitney's passion. Whitney is a Transportation Security Officer for the Department of Homeland Security and is a Logistics Specialist in the U.S. Army Reserve.

(8) A’Rion Hyman (Management major) has been hired for a sales/business development position with Massage Envy Spa. Tiesha Kluttz (former Management major) is a Manager at Envy and provided the opportunity.

(9) Brittany McKenzie (Accounting major and May 13 grad) is doing Accounting contract work for the Virginia Department of Housing Authority. Brittany is a candidate for a full time position for an Accounting Assistant position.

(10) Kristina Ambers (MISY major) and May 14 grad has been hired as a Helpdesk Technician at SAIC.

(11) James Barber (Management major) along with his precious daughter, Akhenaton Blye (Management major), Blair Jeffress (Accounting major and May 14 grad), Cory Lane (Marketing major), Sylvia McHerron (Management/HR major) and her husband, Jahmica Ragsdale (Management major and May 14 grad), Andre Rawls (MISY major and May 14 grad), LaTasha Richardson (Accounting major), and Candace Spencer (Management major and May 14 grad) attended VSU Night at the Diamond for the Squirrels game. Of special note, Andre (who is now enrolled in grad school here) joined four of his peers and Coach Latrell Scott for autographs. We had nearly 300 kids meet our players and acquire autographs. It was a special moment. 

(12) Kayla Peck (Accounting major and May 14 grad) has been formally extended a job offer from Dixon Hughes Goodman upon completion of her graduate degree at George Mason.

(13) Michael McCatrey (Marketing major) participated in Project Shadow with Evan Kaufman (Executive Director of Hopewell Downtown Partnership).

(14) Jhardian Cannon (MISY major and May 14 grad) has earned a Yellow Belt Certification for Lean Six Sigma. An employee of Virginia Premier, Jhardian is demonstrating the value of certification!

(15) Marnelle Fanfan (Management major) volunteered for the Petersburg YMCA in a public awareness and membership drive campaign.

(16) Kera Briges (MISY major) interviewed with our good friends at Shamin Hotels.

(17) Nigel Holmes (MISY major and May 14 grad) has been hired by our good friends at Bank of America for an IT Security Analyst position. It should be noted that Nigel interned for Dease Moore at 4Core Technology Group. Dease and 4Core have now placed 4 of our students in high paying IT jobs within 90 days of graduation!! What an awesome friend to VSU!!!!

(18) Alana Dawson (Marketing major and May 14 grad) interviewed for a Web Marketing Coordinator position with our good friends and Industry Council(s) member Allen and Allen. Alana is also a candidate for a marketing position at UNC Charlotte.

(19) Craig Lowe (Marketing major) participated in Project Shadow with senior leadership at Siemens in Chicago. Craig’s visit was the first in a series of Siemens shadow visits with the next to materialize at the D.C. office for Kera Bridges (MISY major). 

(20) Eric Muite (Management major) participated in Project Shadow with Kenneth Hopkins (Financial Advisor and Recruiting Coordinator) at EdwardJones in Midlothian. As a reminder, Kahlil Tate and Ryan Villogram (May 14 grads) were hired by EdwardJones as advisors.

(21) Latoya Gee (MISY major and May 12 grad) has been hired by our good friends at Standard Motor Products in Prince George. Latoya will be responsible for Customer Service and Customer Solutions.

(22) Corey Peoples (MISY major) has earned a paid internship with our good friends at McKesson Surgical in Richmond. Corey is responsible for a data management project and taking programs off some computers and adding programs to others.

(23) Diamond Sykes (MISY major) and Eric Muite (Management major) participated in a networking session with our good friend Genevieve Roberts (Managing Partner) at her Titan Group function in Richmond in Scott’s Addition. Altogether, 40 persons attended.

(24) Sylvia McHerron (Management/HR major) and James Barber (Management major) networked with Vandy Jones (Director of Economic Development for the City of Petersburg) at a Petersburg Generals baseball game. 

(25) Edmarie Rodriguez (MISY major and Exchange Student—May 12 grad) has been hired by Cardiocore as a Data Technician Team Lead.

(26) Terrance Hobson (MISY major) has secured summer employment working the front desk at Econo Lodge in Petersburg.

(27) James Barber (Management major) participated in a business development meeting with William Schooley, Manager at Clark Nexsen.

(28) Kera Bridges (MISY major) returned to the states from Mexico; more and more VSU students are spending time abroad.

(29) Enterprise Rent-a-Car has invested another $5k in our students. President Miller is flanked by new members of the VSU Board of Visitors and is joined by Sylvia McHerron (Management/HR major).

(31) Kamesha Gibbs (Management major and May 14 grad) participated in a Commercial Coffee networking breakfast in Richmond with 60 persons. 

(32) Kevin Wiggins (Management major and May 14 grad) has been accepted in to The College of William and Mary where Kevin will pursue his M.B.A. at the Mason School of Business.

(33) Michelle Veney (Management major and May 13 grad) has been accepted in to Penn State’s master’s program. 

(34) Christina Tefera (Management major) interviewed with Michael Edwards, Project Manager at Booz Allen & Hamilton.

(35) Tarasha Pierce (Management major) participated in a Entrepreneurship Conference in Richmond at St. Paul’s with our friends to include Darius Johnson, Rita Ricks, etc. Tarasha joined Sharon Taylor for the conference.

(36) Kelsey Evans (Management major and May 13 grad) has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to Bangladesh for an English Teaching Assistantship, the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board announced recently.

(37) Naimah Miller (Management major and May 12 grad) has been hired for a new job as a Sales Coordinator for UBM.

(38) Daniel Awosonya (Accounting major and May 13 grad) has been hired by AT&T as a Retail Sales Consultant in North Carolina.

(40) Laura Jones (Accounting major), Sylvia McHerron (Management/HR major), and James Barber (Management major) participated in the Hispanic College Institute (HCI) College & Fair in Daniel Gym. All three students intern for our friend Dease Moore at 4Core Technology. 

(41) Kera Briges (MISY major) and Marnelle Fanfan (Management major) participated in a YMCA planning meeting in Petersburg pertinent to the YMCA’s 2014 Prayer Breakfast.

(42) Natan McKenzie (Marketing major and 2011 grad) and Marnelle Fanfan (Management major) participated in a meeting with Lt. Governor Ralph Northam in Petersburg. 

(43) Robert Henderson (Management major) has been hired as a Management Assistant at Defense Logistics Agency in Richmond.

(44) Jasmine Taylor (Management/HR major and May 14 grad) has been hired by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission for a Post Grad Internship in HR.

(45) DeShawn Faulks (Management major) has been hired at Fort Pickett in Blackstone in procurement this summer.

(46) Rolston Jackman (Accounting major) interviewed yesterday for a Personal Banker position with Wells Fargo and I just traded notes with the recruiters and they shared that Rolston can expect good news shortly!

(47) Chelsea Jackson (MISY major and May grad) has been hired as a Client Data Analyst for Royall & Company.

(48) Alexis Coleman (Marketing major) has earned a summer HR internship at McCalla Raymer.

(49) Marnelle Fanfan (Management major) met with our good friends at the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce in Richmond. It should be noted that GRCC and Kim Scheeler hired Ian Williams (Management major and May 14 grad).

(50) Eric Muite (Management major) participated in a series of business development meetings in Richmond to include with ABCWRIC.

(51) Jarman Esperance (Management/HR major) has secured summer employment as an Executive Assistant at the Melanie Anderson Company.

(52) Ashley Harris (Management major and May 14 grad) has been hired as a Student Trainee at the National Defense University.

(53) Timothy Blanks (Management major) has earned a paid summer internship at the Defense Contract Management Agency at Fort Lee for the U.S. Army. Timothy had previously been interning for the Commissary but this new opportunity increases his scope of responsibilities.

(54) Alyssa Roberts (MISY major and May 14 grad) has been hired by SAIC as a Help Desk Technician.

(55) Kera Bridges (MISY major) and Michael McCatrey (Marketing major) participated in the RichTech night out networking in Richmond with over 100 IT companies.

(57) Nakeya Johnston-Peterson and Kenzele Mason (Accounting majors and grads) both interviewed with Marvin Allmond for a full-time Accounting position at Allmond and Company in D.C.

(58) Eli Johnson and Corey Peoples (both MISY majors) interviewed for a paid IT internship at McKesson Surgical.

(59) Mary Martin (Marketing major and May 14 grad) has been hired by Dominion Enterprises as a National Sales Planner. You will recall that Mary had previously been offered positions with Fresno Gas and Oil and with American Airlines as a Flight Attendant. However, Mary’s calling was in Marketing therefore the new job announcement. Mary will be working with Ayesha Taylor (Marketing major and May 12 grad).

(60) Corey Peoples (MISY major) interviewed for a paid IT internship with our good friends at Northrop Grumman.

(61) James Barber (Management major) participated in a BNI networking meeting in Colonial Heights with over 30 businesses.

(62) Sylvia McHerron (Management/HR major) has been awarded a summer internship at 4Core Technology Group with our buddy Dease Moore.

(63) A’Rion Hyman (Management major), Chelsea Jackson (MISY major and May 14 grad), and Michael McCatrey (Marketing major) participated in a Madison + Main Media Mixer with our friend Dave Saunders in Richmond. 

(64) Brittney Young (Management major and 2012 grad) celebrated one year on the job as a Case Manager at Goodwill Industries.

(65) Sylvia McHerron (Management/HR major) and Craig Lowe (Marketing major) are bringing home the top prizes from their home city of Chicago pertinent to their participation in a national speech and finance competition. Sylvia and Craig participated in the Urban Financial Services Coalition (UFSC) national competition and both have earned $1,000 scholarships! For a pic of Sylvia and Craig, see attachment.

(66) Jahmica Ragsdale (Management major and May 14 grad) has been hired as a Procurement Assistant with our good friends and Industry Council(s) member Alstom Power.

(67) Breyana Baggett (Marketing major and May 13 grad) has been hired as a Marketing and Communications Assistant at The Dragas Companies in Virginia Beach.

(68) Blair Jeffress (Accounting major and May 14 grad) has been accepted in to VCU's Graduate School of Accountancy.

(69) Christina Tefera (Management major) participated in a Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Economic Vitality Strategic Meeting and represented the VSU student body.
