Council Member Appointed Chairman of State-wide Group

Mike Matthews, PE, Chief Executive Officer and President of Hankins & Anderson (H&A), and a member of the Executive Council in the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University has been named Chair of the Virginia Council of CEOs effective January 1, 2016. Mike has been a member of the council for six years, during which time he has served as a roundtable leader, treasurer, and vice-chair.
H&A is a 200-person architecture and engineering firm with offices in Richmond, Virginia Beach and Woodbridge. They specialize in the worldwide design of secure, mission critical facilities with a specific focus on U.S. embassies. Under the leadership of Mike Matthews, H&A has ranked nationally in the Top 15 in Government Building design. PSMJ recognized the firm twice as a Circle of Excellence firm, and Zweig-White ranked it the best multi-discipline A/E firm to work for in the country two years in a row.
The Virginia Council of CEOs consists of more than 180 CEOs who participate in monthly roundtable discussions, quarterly luncheons, Knowledge Network meetings, and annual retreats. The Executive Council (EC) of the Reginald F. Lewis College of Business (RFLCB) at Virginia State University (VSU) aims to bring an external perspective on the various internal and external strategies and operations to the RFLCB, to provide industry/government input on what may be happening external to the College and to provide input and advice to the Dean and the faculty.
Matthews regularly teaches at VSU, provides financial support, hosts students for shadowing, supports curriculum consultation, etc.
