Spring 2017 Student Accomplishments

The Reginald F. Lewis College of Business at Virginia State University celebrated the following spring 2017 student accomplishments.

(1) Philandra Jordan (MISY major) earned a full-time position for after graduation at IBM in D.C.

(2) Angelique Johnson (MISY major) earned a full-time position for after graduation at IBM. Angelique also earned a full-time position for after graduation at Deloitte.

(3) Elianna Benavides (Accounting major) earned a summer internship at Financial Consulting Group in Richmond.

(4) Kineka Berry (Marketing major) earned a spring internship at J & D Residential Services helping ladies with cognitive dysfunctions.

(5) Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) earned a paid summer sales internship at Eli Lilly.

(6) Korie Collins (Accounting major) and Chelsie Taylor (MISY major) interviewed students at J. R. Tucker High School in Henrico.

(7) Kierra Anthony (Marketing major), Essence Bridges (Marketing minor), Guy DeWeever (Marketing major), Chris Fisher (Management major), Myia Jones (Marketing major), Jahwon Taylor (MISY major), Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major), and Vernicia Williams (MISY major) participated in the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner with President Abdullah.

(8) Korie Collins (Accounting major), Jhadee Gordon (Accounting major), Tanika Mann (Accounting major), and Shamara Russell (Accounting major) participated in a dinner with KPMG.

(9) Forty students visited Howard University in D.C. to participate in an all-day conference with leading companies including e.g. Bain & Co. A big thanks to Art Wharton for joining the students.

(10) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) earned a paid summer marketing internship at Performance Food Group in Richmond.

(11) John Miles (MISY major and 15 grad) returned from his tour of duty in Afghanistan and accepted a position as the Network Administrator for the U.S. Army’s Fort Riley in Kansas in near proximity to Kansas State University.

(12) Deshaun Faulks (Management major and 15 grad) earned a position as a Counselor with Petersburg Public Schools and is stationed at Walnut Hill Elementary.

(13) Over twenty-five students hosted the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and Black Data Processing Association in class. A big thanks to Soma Akkaladevi for his hospitality.

(14) Over sixty students participated in Dale Carnegie Day to include in the classroom. A big thanks to Taneisha Brown for her hospitality.

(15) Over thirty students participated in VCU Brandcenter Day to include interfacing with Hawley Smyth (Recruiter).

(16) Elianna Benavides (Accounting major), Guy DeWeever (Marketing major), Bernard Hudson (Management major), Jahwon Taylor (MISY major), and Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major) were the top performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by State Farm, WalMart, City of Richmond, U.S. Army, and AXA Advisors.

(17) Ahmad Alnigrish (Marketing major), Angelique Johnson (MISY major), and Amber Raymond (Management major) interviewed for a full-time position for after graduation with Deloitte.

(18) Bashirah Bostic, Micah Bullard, Shaylan Ferguson, Kailah Mattox, Osak Okunbor, Sadonia Sylvester, Ra’Quan Taylor, Nadia Victor, and Greg Walker (all Accounting majors) interviewed with KPMG for either the Future Diversity Leaders Program or full-time employment for after graduation.

(19) Jahwon Taylor (MISY major) was the top performer in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by General Electric (GE).

(20) Ten students in Advanced Accounting hosted Allison Hudson (Recruiter) and her team in the classroom. A big thanks to Art Wharton for his hospitality.

(21) Shaylan Ferguson (Accounting major) and Mabertine Pierre (Management major) visited with Congressman Donald McEachin at a meet and greet in Petersburg.

(22) Brianna Flores (Marketing major), Mabertine Pierre (Management major), Hirut Sheta (Marketing major), and Keana Walker (Management major) participated in a Young Non-Profit Networking session with forty persons before visiting the University of Richmond for a tour and stop at C-Suite Series at the Robins School of Business.

(23) Guy DeWeever (Marketing major), Shaylan Ferguson (Accounting major), and Jahwon Taylor (MISY major) participated in the Richmond Forum dinner and program with leading industry and interfaced with e.g. IBM, NBC, YMCA, Coldwell Banker, etc.

(24) Darius Vaughan (Accounting major) was admitted to grad school at LSU. He is attempting to determine if to accept the invite.

(25) Over thirty students hosted the Society of Financial Education in the classroom. A big thanks to Hari Sharma for hosting.

(26) Lisa Abbott (Management major), Ahmad Alnigrish (Marketing major), Cameron Bailey (Accounting major), Kevin Carter (Accounting major), Earon Chandler (Marketing major), Rymesha Fason (MISY major), Aiyana Glover (Marketing major), Jhadee Gordon (Accounting major), Monet Graves (Marketing major), Angelique Johnson (MISY major), Philandra Jordan (MISY major), Kara Rogers (Management major), and Krystal Whidbee (MISY major) participated in two-day workshop with executives and staff at IBM in Raleigh.

(27) Jhadee Gordon (Accounting major) and Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) participated in an all-day workshop with KPMG in Richmond.

(28) Barry Brown (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer working in logistics for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) in Hampton Roads.

(29) Ahmad Alnigrish (Marketing major) participated in a Matoaca High School marketing competition as a judge for high-school students.

(30) Dayton Smith (MISY major) earned a full-time position for after graduation doing IT at the Federal Reserve.

(31) Diamond Sykes (MISY major) earned a position as a Data Analyst at Anthem. Diamond had been at Oracle.

(32) Guy DeWeever (Marketing major), Messiyah Kerr (Management major), Lauren James (MISY major), Stephanie Osafo (Accounting major), Marquai Randolph (MISY major), and Regan Taylor (Management major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by the State Farm, Northrop Grumman, Sandler Training, Progress Index, and RVA Technologies.

(33) Rymesha Fason (MISY major) and Fidelis Zemkwe (MISY major) were awarded free membership in the Black Data Processing Association national chapter by way of sponsorship from Ryan Consulting Group.

(34) Shavon Daire (Management major and 15 grad) earned a position as a Showroom Assistant at the Showroom in New York City.

(35) Elijah Miller (Marketing major and 16 grad) earned a position as an IT Specialist at State Farm in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

(36) Juanita Reed (MISY major and 16 grad) earned an IT position with our good friend James Bumpas at Frederick Mutual Insurance Company in Maryland. James left the Fed Reserve to lead IT initiatives at the aforementioned company and Juanita is his first hire.

(37) Seventy students in COBU 400 hosted both President Abdullah and Dana Bedden (Superintendent of Richmond Public Schools) for remarks in the classroom.

(38) Stacey Elder (Management major) in her capacity as General Manager of the student-run clothing store hosted President Abdullah for a donation of several of his suits.

(39) Tiffany Tucker (Management major) earned a paid internship for the summer at the Virginia Department of Transportation. Tiffany’s responsibilities will regard HR, procurement, civil rights.

(40) Kevin Carter (Accounting major) earned two full-time job offers for after graduation in May. Both offers are for positions at Dominion.

(41) Tanika Mann (Accounting major) earned a job offer for after graduation in May at KPMG. Tanika also has a job offer from Ernst & Young.

(42) Guy DeWeever (Marketing major), Monet Graves (Marketing major), and Jawuan House (Marketing major) visited the VCU Brandcenter to discuss graduate school and to be provided a tour along with participating in the Friday Forum. Their host was Vanessa Brown (Marketing minor and 16 grad). Vanessa is enrolled at the Brandcenter.

(43) Chamyra Riddick (Management major) and Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major) participated in a Petersburg Chamber of Commerce workshop with twenty businesses.

(44) Jawuan House (Marketing major) attended an Appomattox Governor’s School steering committee meeting in Petersburg with the superintendents of schools for the City of Petersburg and County of Chesterfield.

(45) Laurence Blocker (Marketing major), Guy DeWeever (Marketing major), Michelle Gilchrist (Management major), Lauren James (MISY major), and Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by the U.S. Army, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, and the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce.

(46) Over eighty students attended the Career Expo and interfaced with over fifty employers. A big thanks to Career Services!

(47) Over sixty students participated in CIA Day. A big thanks to Career Services!

(48) Brianna Flores (Marketing major) earned a spring semester marketing internship with our friends at Richmond Association of Realtors (RAR).

(49) Taylor Choyce (Management major) earned a promotion at Capital Area Health Network where she works with our friends Tracy Causey and Tawanda Johnson in HR. Taylor started as an intern but performed so well that she has earned a position.

(50) Chelsie Taylor (MISY major) participated in Project Shadow with Mark Luck (Chief Information Officer) at Richmond Association of Realtors.

(51) Hunter Johnson (Marketing major) earned a spring semester marketing and events management internship with the City of Petersburg.

(52) Earon Chandler (Management major) participated in a legislative reception with scores of business leaders in Richmond at McGuireWoods.

(53) Kabria Allen (Marketing major), Kineka Berry (Marketing major), and Aneja Padgett (Marketing major) attended a reception hosted by Dominion in Richmond for over two hundred business leaders. The ladies joined President Abdullah in attending.

(54) Kyla Frank (Management major), L’Nique Mone Freeman (Management major), Jhadee Gordon (Accounting major), Monet Graves (Marketing major), Hale Gray (Management major), Erica Joemah (Management major), Jasmine Johnson (Accounting major), Marvin Lee (Management major), and Fred Sanders (Management major) participated in the ChamberRVA After Hours networking social with forty business along with President Abdullah and Dean Omojokun.

(55) Forty students participated in CW Day to include hosting Mike King (Sales Associate) is the classroom. A big thanks to Taneisha Brown for allowing access to her classroom!

(56) Michele Gilchrist (Management major) was the Top Performer in Small Group Role-Play with industry as assessed by Dale Carnegie, 2nd Chance Consulting, and Dominion.

(57) Briana Bell (Mangagement major), Kyla Frank (Management major), Messiyah Kerr (Management major), Fred Sanders (Management major), and Tiffany Tucker (Management major) represented the College of Business at Arena Racing at the Coliseum in Richmond as guests of CEO Ricky Dennis.

(59) Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) participated in Project Shadow with Mary Ellin Arch (Marketing and Communications Director for DBi Services).

(62) Forty students participated in Commercial Real Estate for Women (CREW) Day with Troutman Sanders, DraperAden, and Greater Richmond Partnership for Virginia. A big thanks to Steve Holeman and Louis Dabney for hosting CREW in their classrooms.

(63) Seven students participated in Girls for A Change Day. A big thanks to Patrice Perry-Rivers for hosting Girls for A Change in her classroom.

(64) Jhadee Gordon (Accounting major) and Monet Graves (Marketing major) attended the Richmond Forum and interfaced with scores of businesses to include NBC, IBM, KendallHunt Publishing, McGuireWoods, etc.

(65) Brianna Flores (Marketing major) interviewed for an internship with Richmond Association of Realtors.

(66) Aiyana Glover (Marketing major) and Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) participated in the Commercial Real Estate for Women (CREW) luncheon at the Hotel John Marshall in Richmond and networked with leading women in the profession. Aiyana was acknowledged for being awarded the CREW scholastic scholarship.

(67) Andrew Clarke (Management major) and Chris Fisher (Management major) participated in the Petersburg Chamber of Commerce After-Hours Networking event with local businesses.

(68) Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major) participated in the Hopewell Downtown Partnership State of Downtown Address and Reception with one hundred persons.

(69) Bryana Thomas (Management major) interviewed for a part-time position at Southside Regional Medical Center.

(70) Brianna Flores (Marketing major) interviewed for a marketing internship with the Richmond Association of Realtors.

(71) Forty students participated in a book signing for Anthony White (Accounting major and 12 grad). White authored a book entitled Ameenah the Queen.

(72) Ninety students participated in Dynex Capital Day to include interfacing with CEO Byron Boston. A big thanks to instructors Ayse Balas and Mark Kunze for their hospitality in their classes.

(73) One hundred students participated in Ernst & Young Day to include interfacing with Kayla Peck (Accounting major and 14 grad) who is now an auditor at EY. A big thanks to Arthur Wharton, Young Dimpkah, Taneisha Brown, and Lubina Zaidi for their hospitality in their courses.

(74) Sixty students participated in Pathways Day to include interfacing with Shawn Nicholson (COO). A big thanks to Taneisha Brown for her hospitality in her course.

(75) Jean Cain (Management major), Drew White (Marketing major), Jawuan House (Marketing major), Aiyana Glover (Marketing major), and Michaela Nelson (Marketing major) interviewed for a marketing internship at Performance Food Group.

(76) Ta’Keisha Martin (Accounting major and 12 grad) earned a position as a Senior Financial Analyst at Tyson Foods.

(77) Chelsea Jackson (MISY major and 14 grad) was admitted to Liberty University to earn her graduate degree in Cyber Security. Chelsea is a Core Development Program Associate at VDOT in Richmond.

(78) Caleb Rook (Marketing major and 15 grad) earned a position as a Home Loan Processor at Wells Fargo.

(79) Chrisana Cuffee (Marketing major) interviewed for a summer internship with GEICO.

(80) Sadonia Sylvester (Accounting major) earned a paid summer internship for 2018 at KPMG and also a fully-paid trip this summer to participate in the Future Diversity Leaders Program with KPMG in Hollywood, California.

(81) Kailah Mattox (Accounting major) earned a paid summer internship at KPMG and also a fully-paid trip this summer to participate in the Future Diversity Leaders Program with KPMG in Hollywood, California.

(82) Kire Worley (Accounting major) earned a paid summer internship at Village Bank.

(83) Jawuan House (Marketing major) earned a paid summer marketing internship at Performance Food Group in Richmond.

(84) Philandra Jordan (MISY major) and Erica Pickens (MISY major) competed
in the General Electric (GE) Ghost Red hacking competition in Richmond
against students from other universities.

(85) At a Phi Beta Lambda National Business Competition in Richmond, Justin Camp (Management major) and Regan Taylor (Management major) placed first in Strategic Analysis and Design, Elette Ocloo (Management major) and Kamya Reid (Management major) placed first in Business Sustainability, and Elette Ocloo and Kamya Reid placed first in Emerging Business Issues. Also finishing strong were Brandon Green (Management Information Systems major) placing second in Website Design, Justin Camp earning second in Public Speaking, Regan Taylor and Terrill Shephard (Accounting major) finishing second in Business Ethics; and Terrill Shephard and Brandon Green placing second in Business Presentation. Justin Camp earned the Outstanding New Member award and the VSU students also placed first in the Shark Tank Team building event exercise. A big kudos to Aurelia Donald for sponsoring the visit.

(86) Chanel Brown (Marketing major) and L’Nique Mone Freeman (Management major) participated in the College and Career Fair at Carter Woodson Junior High School in Hopewell and recruited students to the College of Business.

(87) Bernard Hudson (Management/HR major) and Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major) participated in the Virginia’s Gateway Region Annual Dinner with President Abdullah along with fifty businesses.

(88) Jasmine Davis (Accounting major) earned an opportunity to participate in a Deloitte case competition in Atlanta at the end of the month of April.

(89) Bernard Hudson (Management/HR major) earned a paid summer internship at Joint Logistics Managers in Prince George.

(90) Daquan Williams (Accounting major) earned a full-time position for after graduation with our friends at Northwestern Mutual.

(91) Guy DeWeever (Marketing major) and Nyle Martin Cooper (Management major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by Shamin Hotels, Thrive, Virginia Credit Union, and the MathScienceInnovation Center.

(92) Over ninety students participated in Lighthouse Labs Day including hosting Todd Nuckols (Executive Director) in the classroom to work on an entrepreneurship exercises. A big thanks to Michael Hawkins, Yun Lee, Hari Sharma, and Alex Weimer for their hospitality in the classroom.

(93) Over thirty students participated in Goldman Sachs Day including hosting Lauren Stokes (VP) in the classroom. A big thanks to Don Amaram for his hospitality in the classroom.

(94) Six students participated in a workshop with Wells Fargo in the classroom. A big thanks to Hari Sharma for his hospitality in the classroom.

(95) Seven students in Business Professionals of America hosted Northwestern Mutual and Ali Hudson (Recruiter) for a workshop.

(96) Stephanie Osafo (Accounting major) won a scholarship from the Richmond Chapter of the Accounting and Financial Women’s Alliance (AFWA).

(97) Drew White (Marketing major) earned a paid summer internship at Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

(98) Hunter Johnson (Marketing major) earned a paid summer management internship in Atlanta at AT&T.

(99) Jeremy Stokes (Management major) purchased a Club Z tutoring franchise.

(100) Rymesha Fason (MISY major) earned a paid IT internship for the summer in Atlanta at Deloitte.

(101) Kara Rogers (Management major) earned a paid summer internship in events management in Hampton at NASA.

(102) Zymir Batts (Accounting major), Michelle Gilchrist (Management/HR major), Lauren James (MISY major), Stephanie Osako (Accounting major), Tiffany Tucker (Management/HR major), and Drew White (Marketing major) were the Top Performers in Small Group Role-Play with Industry as assessed by the City of Richmond, Regus, Chick-Fil-A, and PRO.

(103) Sarah Martin (MISY major and 16 grad) earned a full-time position as an Administrative Assistant with our friends at Timmons Group.

(104) Jeremy Stokes (Management major) participated in a Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce networking event with thirty businesses.

(112) Monet Graves (Marketing major) earned a position as a Tennis Coach at Enon Elementary School in Chesterfield County.

(113) Keyshonna Curry (Accounting major) participated in a ribbon cutting for the new $2 million Farmer’s Market in Petersburg and networking event with a dozen businesses.

(114) Over thirty students participated in Richmond International Raceway Day and hosted Dennis Bickmeier (President & CEO) in the classroom. A big thanks to Alex Weimer for his hospitality in Business Communications.

(115) Students in the Investment Portfolio class hosted Aaron Smith (Owner of A.W. Smith Financial) for a conversation regarding managing finances. A big thanks to Hari Sharma for his hospitality.

(116) Trevon Byron (Management major) attended the RVA Career Expo in Glen Allen.

(117) Students in Career Launch hosted a dozen high school students from New York in classroom exercises with Boyd Homes, Northwestern Mutual, Childsavers, YMCA, Richmond Flying Squirrels, and Lumos Networks.

(118) Laurence Blocker (Marketing major) helped host Walter Cornett (President of PRO) on campus.

(119) Monet Graves (Marketing major) earned a $750 scholarship from the Virginia International Business Council and will be recognized at the April 25th luncheon in Richmond. Monet is our first student to win this scholarship since Ashley Vines (MISY major and 13 grad) won it five years ago as a junior.

(120) Jasmine Johnson (Accounting major) earned a paid accounting internship at the Internal Revenue Service in D.C. for the summer.

(121) Micah Bullard (Accounting major) earned a paid accounting internship at the U.S. Treasury Department in D.C. for the summer.

(122) Tyeshaun Harris (Management major) earned a paid management internship at Nordstrom’s in Richmond for the fall.

(123) Nahja Marinnie (Management/HR major) interviewed for a full-time HR position for after graduation at the Capital Area Health Network.

(124) Danielle Stanback (Management major) earned an interview for a paid sales internship at Allianz in Richmond.

(125) Over ninety students participated in U.S. Treasury Day including hosting James Williams and Brittany Shaw in the classroom. A big thanks to Taneisha Brown for her hospitality in the classroom.

(126) Destiny Hodges (Marketing major) hosted RideFinders on campus to promote sustainability and to encourage students to consider ride sharing.

(127) A dozen students hosted Calvin Corbin (Accounting major and 14 grad), Amanda Diaz (Accounting major and 13 grad), Kenzele Mason (Accounting major and 14 grad) and Frednesha Sanders (Management major and 16 grad) for a College of Business National Association Black Accountants (NABA) event with students in Singleton. Calvin is an accountant at Allmond & Company, Amanda is an accountant at Dominion, Kenzele is an accountant at Allmond & Company, and Frednesha a consultant at Deloitte.

(128) Fifteen students hosted Dante Jackson (Accounting major and 2000 grad) as a guest instructor in the Investments class. Dante has for over a decade been a financial advisor. A big thanks to Lubina Zaidi for her hospitality in the classroom.

(129) Six students hosted Keith Bagby (Management major and 70’s grad) as a guest instructor in the Investments class. Keith is a Senior Underwriting Consultant for Blue Cross Blue Shield, North Carolina. A big thanks to Hari Sharma for his hospitality in the classroom.

(130) Quanda Tynes (Accounting major) earned a paid finance internship for the summer at Newport News Shipbuilding.

(131) Jahwon Taylor (Marketing major) earned a paid business development internship for the summer at BandyWorks.

(132) Rebekah Taylor (Management major) earned a paid HR internship for the summer at Kings Dominion.

(133) Nicole Layne (Accounting major) earned a full-time position for after graduation as an accountant at Allmond & Company in Maryland.

(137) Nahja Marinnie (Management/HR major) earned a full-time HR position for after graduation in Richmond at Capital Area Health Network.

(138) Micah Bullard (Accounting major) earned a study abroad opportunity in Italy and Greece this summer before returning to the U.S. to intern for the U.S. Department of Treasury.

(160) Erica Pickens (MISY major) attended a ribbon cutting and jobs announcement at a software company’s open house, i.e. AvePoint with the Mayor of Richmond.

(161) Drew White (Marketing major) was the top performer in Small Group Role-Play with industry as assessed by Richmond Bubble Soccer and Hopewell High School.

(162) Six students in the Investments class hosted Carl Knoblock (Small Business Administration) for a conversation regarding risk-taking and entrepreneurship.

(163) Jhadee Gordon (Accounting major) was awarded the Outstanding Senior of the Year Award and Amber Raymond (Management major) was awarded the Outstanding Service and Engagement recognition at the University’s Honor’s Program where Stacey Elder (Management major) delivered the charge to graduating seniors.

(164) Over one hundred students were acknowledged for their scholastic achievement at College’s Honor’s Program.

(165) Ryan Pope (Management/HR major and May grad) has been hired for a full-time HR position at Alorica in Norfolk.

(166) Tiffany Tucker (Management major) was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from The Drifters for her “tenacity, commitment, perseverance, and academic excellence”.

(167) Ibukun Jimoh (Accounting major) earned a paid summer accounting internship in the VSU Budget Office working with Adrian Petway.
