Academic Advising

AACSBOur goal is to provide a respectful, professional, supportive and nurturing environment in which students can discuss their concerns and individual needs.

We are committed to assisting students in clarifying their life/career goals and developing educational plans for realizing these goals.  During the 2014-2015 academic year we advised 1,564 students and provided career advising services to 242 students.  We use a strength-based approach to help our students build on their strengths while managing around their weaknesses.  The approach addresses three questions: Who am I?  Where am I going?  How am I going to get there?

Academic Advising

The Office of Academic Advising also provides one-on-one career advising sessions to our students and group sessions in our Professional Enhancement and Career Development Classes (COBU-111).   All business majors are required to take the 2 credit hour class which is an extension of our academic advising services.   Some of the things students learn during our sessions are how to …

  • use career websites
  • explore majors and careers
  • identify their interests, skills and abilities through assessments
  • set educational and career goals
  • develop a career plan
